Ghatasthapana

Kalash Sthapana — the sankalpa rite that opens Sharad Navratri on Ashvina Shukla Pratipada. Barley (jav) is sown in an earthen pot of soil, the water-filled kalasha with mango leaves and a coconut is installed on it as the seat of the Goddess, and the akhanda jyoti is lit for the nine nights. Performed in the forenoon while Pratipada prevails (the first one-third of the day; Abhijit Muhurat when that window is unavailable). Same day as the Navratri row.
