Suna Besha — പ്രാധാന്യം
Special darshan of the Puri Jagannath trinity adorned in gold ornaments, displayed on Bahuda Ekadashi when the deities have returned to the Singhadwara on their chariots. The ornaments have been donated by various dynasties over centuries; the darshan is one of Puri's most popular days.
Suna Besha — പ്രാധാന്യം
The tradition of Suna Besha at Puri is widely attributed to King Kapilendra Deb of the Gajapati dynasty, who in the 15th century returned from a victorious campaign and donated his gold treasure to Lord Jagannath. He decreed that the deities be adorned in gold on the day after Bahuda Yatra. Successive Gajapati rulers and wealthy devotees have added to the ornament collection over the centuries. The Besha includes the Suna Hatha (gold hands and feet), Suna Mukuta (crown), Suna Mali (necklaces) and other ornaments — a sight believed to grant darshan-merit equal to many vrats. While "Suna Besha" can technically be performed on five days in the Puri calendar, the Bahuda Ekadashi occurrence is the most public and widely attended.
