According to the Divya Suri Charitam and tradition, Andal was found as a baby under a tulsi plant by Periyalvar in Srivilliputhur. She grew up with intense love for Ranganatha (Vishnu) and merged with him at Srirangam. Her Tiruppavai is sung during Margazhi (Dhanur month).
